Combined Concert Sat. 5th Jun 2010

Porthcawl Male Choir are pleased to join Port Talbot Cymric Male Choir in welcoming the Dutch Millenium Choir to a combined concert in aid of Latch. The concert will take place at All Saints Church, Porthcawl, commencing 7:00pm. LATCH is a voluntary organisation set up to support the special requirements of the children's oncology centre in Wales which is based at the Children's Hospital for Wales to help affected families and promote research in childhood cancer.


THE MILLENNIUM MALE CHOIR
The Millennium Male Choir is an initiative of the professional singer/conductor JAAP JAN HUNZE and was founded in September 1997. So, as you can see, it is a very “young “ choir…The main goal was to make a big concert tour through the United States and Canada and the choir realized this tour in July 2000. It sung in various places like Los Angeles ( in the famous Crystal Cathedral), San Diego, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Richmond, Kelowna, a.o. and during this 3 weeks tour the choir received commendable reviews like a newspaper report that said: “Dutch Choir, a sweet treat from the Netherlands….”In the passed 12 years the Millennium Male Choir also achieved international recognition. In 2002 the choir participated in an International Contest at Prague (Czechoslovakia) with a participation of more than 80 choirs from all around the world and got the 3rd prize and a bronze medal.Conductor Hunze and his accompanist Mr. Peter Witteveen rewrote the MESSE SOLENNELEby Charles Gounod in a setting for male choir and they gave its world premiere in one of the most famous concert halls, the “Concertgebouw” in Amsterdam.
Just a few months ago, at the 17th of April, the Millennium Choir celebrated its 12 ½ anniversary


The Conductor Jaap Jan Hunze studied at the Conservatory at Arnhem. He is a very passionate man with great drive and musical skills. He studied both solo singing and choir direction which education was followed by lessons from various famous professional singers and by a member of master classes. Besides building up a international soloist career, he also was a member of the Great Broadcasting Choir of the Netherlands, which has become famous all over the world. Jaap Jan Hunze has played a prominent role on the scene Dutch Choirs. He was the founder of various big and important choirs among which the Great Gelre’s Male Choir which existed of none less than 300 singers. With this choir he also performed for the Dutch Royal Family. In 1997 Mr. Hunze took the initiative for the founding of the Dutch Millennium Choir.
