Two
members of Porthcawl Male Choir have had their 25 years
of commitment to the choir recognised. Brian Whitehead,
a member of the Bass section and Phil Davies who sings
in the baritone section, has each been a member of the
choir for 25 years.
Brian, a Mancunian, has lived in the town for nearly 40
years and was formerly an Engineer in the automotive industry.
He is a former committee member and has served as choir
secretary on at least two occasions, he sings in the bottom
bass section, the section known within the choir as the
‘Magnificent Seven’.
Phil is a native of Porthcawl and after leaving the Production
Department of the BSC he joined Ogwr Borough Council where
he served as Manager of the Sandy Bay caravan site until
its closure. He has also been a member of the choir’s
committee and has been the baritone’s section leader
at various times. Audiences will recognise Phil for those
occasions when his strong baritone voice rings out in
solo parts such as ‘ Bring him home’ from
Les Miserables.
The presentations were made by Cllr. David Newton-Williams,
Mayor of Porthcawl and choir Vice President, in the presence
of the choir and the wives of the recipients. Each chorister
was presented with an inscribed clock and framed certificate
of recognition. |
