Porthcawl Male Choir - Guestbook

Comments:
Thank you all so much for your wonderful performance at our wedding reception in Frome on 7th April. It was lovely to wave to some of you as you were arriving at Orchardleigh House and I was leaving for the church, and a real highlight of our day to be sung into our reception to the Welsh national anthem! Our guests thought you were superb, they are still talking about your performance now and I'm sure they will be for a long time to come. We really hope you enjoyed the day too! We can send some photographs to you once we have received them from our photographer. Wishing you all the very best and thank you again, Jemma and Simon

We recently found a little dictionary which was purchased by a British soldier. He gave this diary to a Dutch girl who washed his clothes while stationed on the airstrip. In the booklet is written the name John Jones. The address is Poplar Chwy, Porthcawl, Wales. When I surfed the internet I found a John Jones, who happened to be involved in your choir. I know it is a long shot, but could he be related to the John Jones who signed the booklet. We would like to find out who he was and in what unit he served. Could you please help me?
Thank you very much. With kind regards,
Erwin Janssen, Eerde, The Netherlands

This might be a strange question:
My name is Erwin Janssen, living in a small village called Eerde in The Netherlands. In WWII our village was one of the places which has suffered a lot during the liberation of September 1944, Operation Market Garden. In March 1945 a big airstrip was built by the Allies and a lot of British soldiers were stationed here.

I had a wonderful trip to Wales in June,2012. My ancestors came from your country so it was a dream come true to visit. While shopping in the Welsh Gift Store in Porthcawl, I purchased your CD COR MEIBION PORTHCAWL, A CELEBRATION OF 25 YEARS O CHORAL SINGING.. It has given me many hours of enjoyment. Please let me know if you make any new albums.

I wish your choir the very best.

Sincerely,

Nancy

Admin reply: Hi Nancy, Thank you for kind comments on Wales, Porthcawl and our choir CD. Lake Placid is a small town in the highlands region of Florida, known as a Town of Murals and Caladium Capital of the World, and now we know has a Welsh link through Nancy. (much more on Lake Placid to be found on the web). We hope you enjoyed your visit to Porthcawl and extend a warm welcome should you return. Visitors from afar are made especially welcome at Porthcawl Male Choir rehearsals and concerts.

Hi, Please can you help me. Many a year ago my granddad Gwen Lewis used to sing in the choir, he was a long standing member joining in the early days and even singing in the royal albert hall. My granddad has been passed now for many years now, but my father had tapes of my grandad singing, since moving they have been damaged. i wondered if you have got a cd of the albert hall concert or any kind of recordings in your archives that i could have a copy of for my dads birthday. I would very much like to hear from you regarding this. I look forward to hearing from you soon,
Kind regards K. Lewis

Admin reply: We have sent some information onto you which we hope will be of assistance. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if there is any thing else we can do to help.

On behalf of the Melton Mowbray Group of Macmillan Cancer Support I want to say how much we appreciated the visit of the Choir on Saturday October 22nd 2011. The concert took place in St. Mary's Parish Church to an almost capacity audience. The Choir, Mair and Bethan were at their sparkling best. We had a wonderful time and managed to raise over £163. Thank you again we are so grateful. Look forward to seeing you again in Porthcawl in September.

Admin reply: Thank you Margaret. We appreciate you kind comments. The choir enjoyed singing in St Mary's, which presented a marvellous setting and acoustics. We are grateful for your work in organisation, the facilities and refreshments provided, and for the audience response. Most of all we are glad that the concert was able to raise funds towards the Macmillan Cancer Support.
